Since June 2005, the King Institute has organized discussions and lectures about King’s legacy at universities, schools and libraries across Beijing. In June 2007, the King Institute and The National Theatre Company of China will present the international premiere of the play Passages of Martin Luther King in Beijing, China. The play will be the highlight of Beijing’s first annual Martin Luther King Week, hosted by the King Institute, which will feature lectures, discussions and workshops about Dr. King at universities and libraries across Beijing, see

Chinese artist Lei Yixin has been chosen to sculpt the monument to Dr. King to be erected at the National Mall at Washington DC. China Daily on September 8 2007 comments: "...just imagine what extra good it could do if this project gets more Chinese to know about Martin Luther King and what he stood for. Someone like King who preached universal love and understanding should be for everyone".
