The Tibetan Cultural Realm
The Tibetan Cultural Realm
Tibetan cultural influence has historically spread over the entire Himalayan regions, and as far as Mongolia and parts of Russia. The dissection of the Himalayan cultural realm into nation states with fixed borders, and political events in China, India and Mongolia in mid-20th century have put an end to the cultural exchange within the region. As a result, Tibetan physical heritage has been dramatically diminished. More recent developments, such as deforestation and mass-tourism have damaged the fragile eco-system of the Himalayas, home to many of Asia's major rivers. The economic and cultural aspirations of many local communities remain unfulfilled.
THF cooperates with communities and authorities within the Tibetan cultural realm in several countries of Asia to develop appropriate pathways to sustainable development and heritage conservation.
