The village of Gongkar Choede (close by the Lhasa Gongkar airport) approached THF in 1999 to help the 600 villagers to upgrade their water supply. An earlier scheme had failed and a pipe connected to a large pump provided only trickles of water.
After having obtained the relevant authorizations, THF provided technical assistance. The villagers organized and provided all the manual labour necessary, constructing a new water system consisting of a drilled well, water tank and tower, eight village tapstands, and digging and laying of 1.3 kilometers of pipelines.
