The workshop was supported by INTACH J&K, and scholars, officials, NGOs and institutions engaged in conservation participated, along with three visiting scholars from CNRS France.
After the books donated by various scholars and publishers will have arrived, another formal inauguration is planned this summer.
The participants of the workshop agreed to jointly request the autonomous Ladakhi government, the Ladakh Hill Council, to create a local heritage authority and legislation for the "Ladakh Protected Monument", to afford protection to sites of local importance not under the National Monument Status (which comes under Archaeological Survey of India). It was also agreed to collaborate to prevent construction of a new two-lane thoroughfare road through the historic old town.
