Conservation of mural paintings and sculpture in the Himalayan region

Tibet Heritage Fund, in a joint cooperation with ICOM-CC, Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation, In Situ Preservation, and e-conservation magazine organized a conference ‘Conservation of mural paintings and sculpture in the Himalayan region’ at the Central Asia Museum Leh in August 2013. This conference was dedicated to the inspiring work of André Alexander.
In this conference THF team presented the following papers:
Yutaka Hirako presented two papers, “The role of Tibet Heritage Fund in conservation in Himalayan region” and “Interdisciplinary cooperation and approach for mural conservation practice in Tibetan Buddhism paintings”. Anca Nicolaescu presented “The wall painting conservation project from Tsuklakhang temple” and Yangchen Dolma presented “Training in conservation for maintaining cultural heritage”. Katrin Krause presented “Wooden Buddha sculptures in the village of Sumda Chenmo, Ladakh” and Melodie Bonnat presented the following two papers,
“Stabilization of earthquake affected mural paintings at Lachen, Sikkim” and the
“Conservation restoration of the wall paintings of the Katsu Lhakhang”.
